LIVING WITH ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Approximately half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed and suffering from anxiety as well.

Anxiety

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA):

  • Anxiety disorders are considered the most common mental illness in the U.S.
  • Anxiety Disorders affect nearly 40 million adults in the United States, 18.1% of the population every year, ages 18 and older

The ADAA POINTED OUT AN ALARMING FACT:

Anxiety disorders are highly treatable by an expert medical professional, yet only 36.9% of those suffering from this debilitating disorder seek treatment.

Depression

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA):

  • Major Depressive Disorder is known as the leading cause of disability in the U.S., ages 15 to 44.3
  • MDD affects more than 16.1 million adults, approximately 6.7% of the population
  • This disorder is more prevalent in woman than in men

These tips are recommended by the ADAA:

  • Take a moment and take a time-out from life
  • Ensure that you are eating well-balanced meals
  • Limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol
  • Sleep, your body needs it
  • Exercise on a daily basis
  • Stop and take deep breaths
  • Live to the best of your ability
  • Be aware and accept that you cannot control everything in life
  • Enjoy life and welcome humor
  • Strive to always maintain a positive attitude
  • Engage and get involved in the community
  • Find out and be aware of what triggers your anxiety or depression
